Trainspotting (1996)

I must be one of those few who has not seen this movie.... Ranks #175 in IMDB Top 250 films. Well..it's all about heroin addiction... Despite what some critics have said about the influence of drug abuse this movie may have, it has made me all the more not want to try heroin. Not that I can easily get it here anyways... But this movie is well narrated and woven.. See it. At least watch Ewan McGregor. My question is why was it called Trainspotting?

Trivia section at imdb.com:
'The reason that the book is called Trainspotting,is because Leith near Edinburgh where the film was based, has an old disused railway station, where local junkies would go to buy drugs. When a junkie would go there to buy his drugs, he would say that he was going "Trainspotting".'
You do realise that the movie was based on a book, don't you? :P

yea,I am puzzled by the title too. So I googled it and the first webpage that comes up explains that ''..... Trainspotting is a term used for the practice of keeping obsessive notes on the arrival, departure, characteristics, etc. on the trains in Scotland. It's a relatively pointless activity, not to mention stupid and time-consuming.Tie that in with heroine use - stupid and time consuming is the message the film wants to convey about drug abuse. ...... '' =)
