The Future

This is Babybandit. my one and only niece. Sometimes i do sit and wonder (at work, hehe) what the future has in store for her. the world's so competitive now, it's tough growing up nowadays. You have to be this and that, a ballerina, a pianist, a scholar, a dancer, a violinist..the list is endless. I hear kids are going to schools and montessoris as young as 2 year old. Scary aye? I wonder if she's gonna miss out on the fun we had last time in our era, playing batu seremban and galah panjang. i wonder if she'll indulge in ABC and loklok in the roadside. most kids now are so sheltered that in the end they miss out on many good things. luckily she's one good samseng. :)

Parents of this century want their child to be geniuses in everything and that is impossible. I'd say, if they're destined to be gifted and cannot be forced or created upon.

I'd rather let them experience what we've experienced before as kids and at the same time, teaching them to take care of their academia rather than forcing them to be a ballerina-violinist-artist-scholar. You can't be a hybrid. We always need to specialize in a field.

It's good that your niece is one good samseng, let her be a child. She deserves it.

Yes, many kids nowadays or the future ones are missing out on many many things
I hope we can at least save some of it for them so they can know what it means to be free like in our terms

whether a child is sheltered or not depends a lot on his/her parents attitude. for me all i want for babybandit is for her to be happy..would i soon bow to societal pressures and pack her off to a montessori school? mebbe that would make her happy coz her friends are there? i don't know...

Please do not associate samseng with "naughty/notorious/bad" guys or girls. Its not right.

Anyway, time has changed and we have to flow with it... as for babybandit, children nowadays are all like that so let it be. They'll be able to cope if they are accustomed to it since childhood.

My cousins, who are in primary school, study from morning till 4.00pm daily and then have to wait at the school till 5.30pm for my uncle to fetch them and go dinner at his mum's place. After dinner only they'll go home to puchong and then at nite gotta do revisions/study again. TV time for them is just about an hour.

Sometime i feel they are deprived of childhood fun.
